Once you’ve attended enough Chicago concerts, you’ll almost feel as though you’ve traveled to some of the world’s most iconic music venues. The baroque details and swirling staircase of the Chicago Theatre were modeled after the Paris Opera House, and visitors have taken in opulent performances of both classical music and pop music there. The Metro Chicago was inspired by owner Joe Shanahan’s time hanging at clubs in New York City, and he built its reputation upon early bookings of Big Apple acts such as Sonic Youth and the Ramones. Other venues, however, are purely Chicago: the House of Blues Chicago is sandwiched between the Chicago River and the iconic Marina City “corncob towers,” and Lincoln Hall is powered in part by monitors formerly used by local alt-rock heroes Wilco.
