How Tax Works on Groupon

Deals purchased from Groupon may be subject to applicable sales tax.

The amount of tax charged on your order depends on many factors, including the following:

  • Type of deal
  • Type of item or service purchased
  • Time and location of fulfillment
  • Shipment or delivery address of your order

For Local deals

Each state and city has its own sales and use tax laws. It’s the merchant's responsibility to understand the applicable laws and to collect and remit tax accordingly when you use your Groupon.

For Groupon Getaways

Taxes aren’t typically included in the amount paid for Groupon Getaways voucher deals, so be sure to check the Fine Print to see if you’ll owe additional taxes or fees upon booking or at check-in.

Groupon Getaways deals that require booking through our website's calendar at the time of purchase will include any applicable taxes in the total price, unless otherwise stated.

For GrouponLive ticketed events

Before you purchase any ticket through GrouponLive, be sure to read the terms of the offer carefully. While most tickets that you purchase through GrouponLive will include all fees, if taxes and fees aren’t included, that information will be specifically disclosed in the deal's Fine Print and printed on the face of the voucher.
