It’s almost summer, and if you’re like me, you’ve been excitedly planning for warm, sunny weather for a long, long time. But if you’re like me, you also haven’t actually made any plans yet.
And that’s okay! That’s why you’re here, looking at this article. You’re here to get tips and ideas for the best summer vacation destinations for you and the whole fam this year, and we have exactly that. So read on and see our picks!
Florida
This is a whole state full of summer things to do. So where do you start? I would suggest in Orlando. Visit Universal Studios Resort for an incredible trip for adults and kids alike. But if you’ve reached the stage of adulthood where roller coasters make you sick, Orlando has no shortage of non-amusement park things to do, and it’s also only about an hour’s drive from the beach (the Atlantic coast). So don’t let the opportunity to sun bathe and swim in the clear blue water pass you by!

Pacific Northwest
Looking for summer vacation destinations that are a little less hot and a little less theme park-focused? Head to the Pacific Northwest for more temperate weather and incredible outdoor experiences. Waterfalls? Check. Beautiful beaches? Covered. Literal mountains? Lace up your hiking boots. Serene islands? Got that, too. And once you’ve had your fill of nature, come back to the city and explore things to do in Portland or get a Seattle CityPASS.

San Diego, Calif.
Stay out on the west coast but head a little further south (OK, a lot further south) to San Diego for beautiful weather and a more city-focused vacation. Go sailing, see some whales and eat great food with an endless amount of things to do for the whole family. But I think we all know what the real attraction is — the San Diego Zoo! See all the animals and then keep exploring with the San Diego CityPASS. And for those of you that love a good beach and ocean views, San Diego has plenty.

Anchorage, Alaska
Didn’t expect to see Alaska on a list of summer vacation destinations, did you? But when else are you going to go? December? I think not. Alaska in the summer is beautiful and in bloom and definitely a place worth visiting. Take tours, see whales, maybe take a day trip (or a two-day trip) up to Denali National Park, or just enjoy saying “I went to Alaska” this summer.

Denver, Colo.
Love the idea of an outdoorsy vacation but not feeling Washington or Oregon? Head to Denver for a fun (and potentially boozy) summer getaway. Visit the majestic Rocky Mountain National Park or the otherwordly formations at Garden of the Gods for great hiking and gorgeous scenery, then head back into the city for lunch and a beer at one of the many breweries Denver has to offer. There are also a ton of museums to visit if you get tired of the sun.

Chicago, Ill.
If you’re a sports fan, Chicago might be the place for you. Visit the Windy City and see a Cubs game (or two) while you’re there. Or see the Chicago Fire play a soccer match. Not into sports? No problem. Hop on a boat and get a history/architecture tour as you cruise down the Chicago River. And who can leave without trying out the famous pizza (maybe try a lot of pizza) on a pizza tour? And if you’re feeling ambitious, see how many attractions you can fit into your trip with an all-inclusive pass.

Boston, Mass.
Another option for the baseball fans — check out a Red Sox game at Fenway Park while you’re on a Boston summer vacay. And if you’re into history, Boston might be the American destination to visit. Wander the Freedom Trail, climb aboard the USS Constitution (aka “Old Ironsides”) or walk through the charming North End to see Paul Revere’s house. If that seems overwhelming, you can find a tour (historical, food or otherwise) to lead the way.
