GROUPON GUIDE TO CHICAGO

What's the Best Pumpkin Patch Near Me?

BY: Shannon Grilli | Sep 18, 2018

Welp, the kids just went back to school, and Christmas decorations are already popping up in some stores. Which means, we must be smack dab in the middle of pumpkin season! And the return of autumn has you dreaming about hayrides and apple cider donuts, you're probably wondering: "what's the best pumpkin patch near me?" To help you, we vetted pumpkin farms near and far to draft up a short list of the best spots for some fall fun, no matter where you live.

If You're in the Northeast:

Jumbo's Pumpkin Patch | Middletown, MD

You have to work to find the pumpkin patch at this 1870s farm, but that's half the fun. A hayride drops you at the massive corn maze, which you'll have to wind your way through if you want the pleasure of finding the patch of pumpkins that awaits at its exit. Once there, you can pick not just pumpkins, but gourds and other squash that are still growing on the vine. It's hard work, but once the hayride drops you back off at the farm stand, you can reward yourself with funnel cakes and other treats.

Stakey's Pumpkin Farm | Aquebogue, NY

Fill up on apple cider donuts when you arrive at Stakey's, because you're going to need the energy! The farm's pick-your-own field is filled with orange, yellow, and white pumpkins ripe for picking, plus gourds, squashes, and other vine-ripened beauties, all ready to be plucked and placed in your wheelbarrow. If you can manage to fit your entire haul in your arms and carry it all the way to the register, you'll be rewarded with a special flat all-you-can-carry price. Otherwise you're paying by the pound, so take your carbo-loading seriously. Bonus: Stakey's also welcomes leashed pets, so the entire family can get in on the fall fun.

Marini Farm | Ipswich, MA

Marini Farm is famous for two things: strawberries and an amazing bakery. While you won't find much of the former come fall, pumpkin season is a perfect excuse to return for the latter, while also enjoying seasonal activities such as a giant jumping pillow, a corn maze, and an apple cannon. After you've picked your perfect jack-o-lantern candidate, don't forget to indulge in some cider donuts or monkey bread muffins and buy some extras for the ride home.

If You're in the Southeast:

Pipe Creek Pumpkin Patch | Pipe Creek, TX

In addition to finding your Halloween pumpkins at Pipe Creek, you can also pose for your holiday card photo since the pumpkin patch is located on a Christmas tree farm! Other activities include pumpkin painting and scarecrow dressing and there's even an onsite petting zoo where you can feed, goats, sheep, and mini horses.

Burt's Farm | Dawsonville, GA

If you're in the market for a truly gigantic pumpkin, Burt's Farm is the pumpkin patch for you, with an entire section dedicated to wheelbarrow-sized beauties. Of course, the rest of the pumpkins, gourds, and squashes are lovely too, all pre-sorted by type and lined up in neat rows. Once you've carried (or rolled) your selection out to the car, be sure to stop back inside the farmhouse to pick up one of the famous pumpkin and cream cheese rolls.

Southern Hill Farms | West Orlando, FL

Southern Hill is primarily a blueberry farm, and, if you're lucky, they'll still be making some of their famous blueberry lemonade come fall. If not, don't fret: they'll still have delicious apple cider slushies you can sip as you peruse the selection of pumpkins, play some corn hole, or enjoy a bumpy hayride around the grounds.

If You're in the Midwest:

Country Pumpkins | Dry Ridge, OH

It's hard to believe that this was once just a small pumpkin stand on the side of the road, since today, Country Pumpkins boasts a huge array of activities, including a corn maze, hay pyramid, and pick-you-own pumpkin patch spread across a 250-acre dairy farm! Drop by on Friday or Saturday nights for bonfires, a lantern-lit hayride, and a special flashlight maze.

Goebbert's Pumpkin Patch | South Barrington, IL

A pumpkin-eating dinosaur keeps watch over the expansive grounds at Goebbert's, and things just get wilder from there. In addition to offering pumpkins, apple cider donuts, and all the other traditional fall offerings, the farm invites kids to explore an exotic petting zoo (with giraffes!), watch pig races, and be dazzled during weekend magic shows. The food options are endless to, ranging from pulled pork sandwiches to sweet kettle corn made in an old-fashioned copper kettle.

Sonny Acres Farm | West Chicago, IL

Set under a huge grove of oak trees, Sonny Acres offers a family-friendly experience for all ages. Little ones will love the (only slightly-spooky) spook shed and pony rides, while bigger kids will love the nighttime haunted hay rides through the woods. In addition to finding excellent pumpkins throughout the grounds, families will find everything they need for the season, including Halloween costumes, yard decorations, and provisions like pumpkin butter and homemade fudge. If none of the onsite food vendors tempt your taste buds, head up the street for a stack of pumpkin pancakes at the nearby Olde North Pancake House instead.

If You're in the Northwest:

The Pumpkin Patch | Portland, OR

Set on picturesque Sauvie Island, this family-owned pumpkin patch is one of the most scenic places to pick out your Halloween pumpkin. If you come early in the season, you might still be in time to enjoy you-pick-sunflowers as well, but, if not, there's still plenty here to delight, including an animal barn, a corn maze, and a farmer's market with excellent prices on produce.

Carpinito Brothers' Pumpkin Patch | Kent, WA

Carpinito Brothers is known for it's incredibly (some might say insanely) reasonable produce prices and that doesn't exclude the pumpkins that arrive here every fall. Plus, those low, low prices mean you can enjoy everything else the patch has to offer, including a corn maze, duck races, hay rides, and, of course, the famous roasted corn.

Anderson Farms | Erie, CO

What isn't there to do at Anderson Farms? In addition to taking a ride out to the pick-your-own patch, you can explore the 30-acre corn maze or the hay bale maze, ride on the barrel train, and even go mining for gem stones! Night time brings even more extra-curriculars, include a haunted corn maze and a chance to make s'mores around a campfire.

If You're in the Southwest:

MacDonald's Ranch | Scottsdale, AZ

It's pretty neat seeing piles of bright orange pumpkins surrounded by saguaro cacti, but that's not the only reason to visit MacDonald's Ranch. Kids can also pet ponies and pigs or pan for gold, and you can even book a guided horseback ride if you feel so inclined.

Pa's Pumpkin Patch | Long Beach, CA

Part carnival, part pumpkin farm, Pa's Pumpkin Patch offers enough activities for you to make a day of it. Munching on deep-fried Oreos and riding the carousel will make you feel like you're at a county fair and bales of hay and stalks of corn do a fair job making you forget you're in LA and not the Midwest. Until you look up and spot the palm trees, that is.

Gilcrease Orchard | Las Vegas, NV

This pick-your-own fruit and vegetable farm is like a little slice of the heartland situated right smack in the middle of the desert. The kettle corn and apple cider donuts (with cinnamon cream cheese frosting!) alone would be worth a trip, but seeing the orange pumpkins and curling green vines growing out in the middle of the rocky Las Vegas Valley puts the entire experience over the top.
